JOSHUA BARRETT
GUITAR | BASS
Born in Deal, Kent where he has lived for most of his life, Joshua decided to pick up the guitar after being introduced to The Beatles at a young age. As a self taught musician, Josh grew up learning classic rock such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Guns and Roses, Van Halen etc. Early performances include playing in school talent contests as part of a band and as a solo performer. After finishing his A-levels, Josh took a year out where he worked briefly for P&O. It was then he realised his intentions to study music at university. During an access course he was introduced to the music of legendary Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and as a result swapped the electric guitar for the acoustic and rock for jazz music. During Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University, Joshua set up a Gypsy Jazz band and began performing, which he is still doing today. Josh began teaching at YMS after James, the managing director, sat in on his final performance at university and offered him the position he holds today.
