John received his Batchelor of Music degree from Canterbury Christ Church University in 2007 where he studied classical harmony, chamber music, instrumental teaching, ethnic musicology, and electro acoustic composition. He has been teaching at YMS since 2007 among various other schools in the Kent area after graduating. While studying for a double A level in music, John took up piano lessons with his teacher John Hursey and would go on to receive a distinction grade 8 with ABRSM (which was his first ever music exam) and then Diploma ABRSM.
John specialises in the piano works of Claude Debussy with other favoured composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Ravel. He has been playing the guitar since he was thirteen and favours styles like jazz-blues, indie, finger-style and classical. Other interests include reading Haruki Murakami and Stephen King novels, playing video games, electronic music, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
