KAREN NEWBY

PIANO | ORGAN | VIOLIN | THEORY

Karen has been immersed in music her whole life. Her dad began teaching her piano when she was 4 years old, and she began gigging 10 years later playing for cabaret, also as a restaurant and hotel pianist, and began teaching piano and violin at the age of 15. Karen studied piano and violin at Trinity College of
Music, then began her career in earnest.

Music has taken Karen around the world, in hotels, on cruise ships as pianist and Musical Director, and on concert stages. Highlights have been ten years as a resident pianist at the Ritz Hotel in London, playing Elton John's red piano at the Albert Hall, touring with the Lancashire Schools Symphony Orchestra to the USA, Sweden and Austria as a violinist, working with fabulous musicians and watching pupils find the wonder in music.

Many of Karen's pupils now work very successfully in the music industry, with one (who is studying at the Royal Scottish Academy) winning the BBC Young Composer award. Karen currently plays keyboards with the KT Bush Band, playing the music of Kate Bush together with her original guitarist Brian Bath; Karen is the pianist arranger for Hersh Dagmarr, performing Weimar
Cabaret built around the songs of Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Kylie, Britney Spears and the Pet Shop Boys among others; She also presents Piano-oke nights where the audience are the stars. Karen also specialises in classical and musical theatre accompaniment and play for ballet classes and auditions.

Music is a gift, and we are all so lucky to have the chance to share it.
